What a lovely post. I have been thinking about a move to Shetland because I've fallen in love with it too. I was looking to do exactly as you suggest and spend a winter there. I couldn't get everything organised for this winter, but hope to spend a view weeks there over an upcoming winter. My screensaver is photos of Shetland, that I've taken during my 27 visits. They are such a comfort to me and I love the dramatic scenery that you describe. There really is something special about Shetland.

I’m so happy for you Misa. I hope to one day feel as connected with my village, as you are with Shetland. It’s on a beautiful peninsula surrounded by stunning scenery, and I’ve lived here since birth. I think I’m looking for something extra, perhaps it’s too noisy and I just need to pause a little longer and take it in more. I’m hoping now I’m retired I can make the time.

A great essay. I fell in love with Shetland last year, and if I were a few decades younger, I’d likely try it out in a heartbeat! I was surprised by just how much I felt the connection, and how the people and places resonated with me. It truly is an extraordinary place.

Thank you that’s so interesting sometimes it’s the small things that make us happy. We’ve been devouring Shetland the detective series and the scenery is quite beautiful. It’s on the bucket list for a visit!

We watched all of the TV series Shetland too, but if you really want to get some glimpses of Shetland, watch Landward on Brit Box, as the program looks at ALL of Scotland, including shetland, at the people, the land, the farms, the businesses, the animals and birds and heritage sites. Truly an amazing program!!!

Well Misa, there is no doubt that you love living in Shetland. I was enamoured with Scotland when. I visited there, and can't wait until the Fall of 2027 when my husband and 2 of our best Friends are going to Shetland for a month. We want to experience what you just described.

Sounds wonderful, but TV show makes it seem like a murder playground. 🙂

The reality is that Shetland has one of the lowest crime rates in Europe. What makes me laugh is the number of people who seriously ask “have you met Jimmy Perez” if they discover I’ve been there. As if tv characters are actually real people 🤣🤣

We always laugh when we watch the show. How can there be so much crime in Lerwick?

I know, right???? LOL

Because a few nefarious individuals relocated there from Midsomer but old habits die hard ?
